Deep Dive

E.l.f. is leveraging the finale of 'Survivor's' milestone season to experiment with co-branded, narrative-driven marketing. In the three-part series of short films airing on CBS and Paramount+, content creator Rowe is placed in the show's brutal competitive world, where she gains an advantage over rivals like Ervin by using E.l.f. products.

In one vignette, Rowe applies E.l.f. Cosmetics Camo Concealer to blend perfectly into the island foliage and eavesdrop on opponents' conversations. Other featured products in the ads include E.l.f. Skin Suntouchable Whoa Glow sunscreen primer and E.l.f. Cosmetics Power Grip Primer. These products are included in a limited-edition set that the beauty brand will sell on its website during Wednesday's live broadcast. Additionally, purchases over $30 will receive a free 'Survivor'-themed buff headband, while supplies last.

"With its cultural acuity and community-driven approach, e.l.f. Cosmetics is the perfect partner for this milestone season, and the 'e.l.f.ie Advantage' creative campaign is a prime example of entertainment-first storytelling that authentically engages fans and seamlessly integrates into the show's universe," said Beth Trentacoste, senior vice president of creative at Paramount Media Labs, in a statement.

In addition to the advertising elements, Rowe is also handling red carpet coverage, paying tribute to legendary women who have won the reality show, including: Ervin, Michele Fitzgerald, Maryanne Oketch, Sophie Clarke, Erika Casupanan, Savannah Louie, and Dee Valladares. Rowe's interviews will appear on E.l.f.'s and 'Survivor's' social media accounts.

The 'Survivor 50' finale may draw extra attention due to the first live reunion in seven years and the first live winner announcement since Season 40. Subtitled 'In the Hands of the Fans,' 'Survivor 50' places greater emphasis on viewer voting than previous seasons, resulting in increased online engagement. The premiere episode garnered the show's most social media interactions to date, averaging nearly 10 million viewers per episode, according to the press release.
