The packaged food marketer is expanding the Wienie 500 ahead of the unofficial start of the 2026 grilling season, seeking to go beyond traditional sports sponsorships through national television coverage and additional interactive elements for drivers and fans.
"Last year's inaugural race proved that the Wienie 500 is more than a one-time spectacle; it's a cultural event that truly resonates," Kelsey Rice, director of brand communications at Oscar Mayer, said in a press release. "This year, we're elevating every element of the race to give fans a fresh take on the lighthearted joy they loved from year one."
The teaser released earlier this week humorously builds anticipation, featuring driver interview clips referencing it as a "historic" event and one of the greatest they've ever seen, before showing the Wienermobile speeding around the track. Oscar Mayer has dedicated all its social media channels to race week promotion, increased paid media on Instagram and TikTok, and executed a timeline takeover on X—where the race trended last year.

The race takes place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and in 2026 it aims to reach a new level of professionalism: redesigned Wienermobile paint schemes, racing gear, limited-edition Wiener Whistles, and the Borg-Wiener Trophy, a nod to the Borg-Warner Trophy, the top prize at the Indy 500. BorgWarner was involved in designing the Borg-Wiener Trophy, and the automotive supplier's CEO, Joe Fadool, will present the award at the Wienie 500.
Oscar Mayer has also enlisted three professional IndyCar Series drivers—Nolan Siegel, Stingray Rob, and Scott McLaughlin—to help sharpen the racing strategies of its Hotdoggers. Oscar Mayer says the coaching process with the Hotdoggers has been filmed for social content and will be released soon.
Additionally, the brand is expanding fan engagement through the Pick Your Dog fan vote introduced earlier this year. The results showed the Sonoran Dog was eliminated from the racing lineup, while the Corn Dog earned the sixth spot. Wienie 500 exclusive merchandise is now available at theIndianapolis Motor Speedway online store.
